The DTALKS Podcast - A Dad Podcast

The DTALKS Podcast is a parenting podcast with a focus on the dad’s perspective and features dads talking about life, kids, and stuff.  While dads have an obvious interest in our kids, there’s still room to discuss our hobbies, the movies we enjoy, TV shows we’ve grown up with, and other things that entertain us. Life in general, and especially as a parent, is in a constant state of evolution, and we feature conversation around both how we deal with it and how we prepare our children for the world they are growing up in.  Our podcast does feature guests that offer perspectives we do not. Some might be personalities you’re familiar with and others are our friends, but all have something unique to add to the discussion. We do try to keep the focus on their experiences with fatherhood, but go where the conversation takes us.

In this episode of the DTALKS Podcast, the dads talk about Halloween and trick or treating. We talk about the etiquette and safety of walking door to door, asking strangers for candy, and lessons we can teach through that.

This episode also marks the announcement of our move to Vokal Now and how you'll be able to listen to our show going forward. We are excited for the opportunity to join this platform, especially with their relaunch of the Zoo, a classic rock station in the Dallas/Fort Worth market that many may remember.

Oct 23, 2017

In this episode of the DTALKS Podcast, the dads talk about family gatherings, the dog and pony show that they can come where everyone shows off the kids and what they can do, and the pros and cons of putting our kids in that kind of social environment.

This episode marks the premier of a new format ahead of a big announcement coming the week of October 30th, 2017. Instead of a bi-weekly, two hour podcast, we are moving to a weekly half hour or so show. This means more DTALKS Podcast for you and a bit more focus from us.

We will be launching directly into the discussion and ending with a weekly dad joke and how you can connect with us. The other staples of "Catching Up With the Dads" and "Things to Check Out" will be available as free bonus content on our Patreon site.

They may not be weekly, but when we do record them, they will always remain 100% free.

Six Things My Children Need
(Thanks for sharing, Cliff!)

  1. My Love - The need to know their father loves them. It's verbalized and shown.
  2. My Discipline - Discipline is proof I love our children. You can't discipline other people's children. It says, "I care about you".
  3. My Acceptance - My love is unconditional. No strings attached. We accept them no matter what. I will never stop loving them.
  4. My Approval - They need to hear me say, "I'm proud of you".
  5. My Spoken Belief in Their Life - They need to hear me say, "You can do it."
  6. My Active Presence In Their Life - It says, "You matter. You are important.

In this episode of the DTALKS Podcast, the dads talk with special guest host Jonathan Crow about his experience raising a son with autism. It was an eye opening experience.

Some of the content might be seem a bit on the WTF side and may make some listeners uncomfortable, but keep in mind that parents of kids with autism face these challenges every day. It's not a part of their reality and is not a WTF moment for them.

Two hours is simply not enough time to cover everything we wanted to, but we are really excited to share this glimpse into a world that a lot of people don't always understand.

Here are some suggestions regarding Autism from Jonathan

  • http://www.tacanow.org/ (he said .com, but it's .org)
  • Developmental Pediatrician that specializes in Autism
  • Your state's Early Childhood Intervention (ECI) program
